Flying with your cat

If your are going to fly with your cat, we give you some practical advice so that you can have an excellent flight

1. Choose the company

The first thing you have to do is to choose a flight company that allows pets to go in the cabin (the UK doesn´t allow animals to go on the cabin). We advise you to call the company directly when you want to reserve your seat and do that two months before the trip.

It’s important to know how much space and weight is allowed by the company. Visit each company website to compare it.

When you reserve your seat, bear in mind that the seats that are on the back of the plane have more vibrations, so you should avoid those places. Last but not least, choose the shortest trip, with least scales and flight hours.

2. Documents you need

Each country can ask for different documents to allow a pet to enter its territory. So, before you fly with your cat, gather all the information about what you need and list everything with the required dates.

Most countries ask for the rabies vaccine with some advance(minimum one month before the trip and maximum un año). Some countries require a deworming, passport, veterinary certificates and other forms from the Ministry of Agriculture of the country of origin.

3. Choose adequate transport box

Before buying, ask the airline about their norms on weight and size. Then find a box where your cat is comfortable (sight, breath, ventilation, space, soft surface and waterproof, etc.).

We advise that you buy a box with a flexible side that can be expanded and give more space to your cat.

4.Desensitization to the transport box

Our cat should be at ease with his transport box so that he sees it as a safe and quiet place. To do that you should search for professional advice with a behaviour specialist some months before your trip.

5.Flight day

On the day you plan to fly give your cat a small amount of food and avoid him to drink two hours before leaving home. Leave the litterbox available until the last minute you are at home.

6. In the airport

When you pass the security area you must take your cat in your arms, with or without a harness and leash. Then we advise you to wait for the plane in the quietest place you can find. Do the same in scales.

7. In the plane

Take a blanket to cover the transport box in case there is too cold on the plane.

According to the flight length, you can take his favourite food and give him small portions.

HAVE A NICE TRIP!
