Is a purring cat a happy cat?

Is a purring cat a happy cat?

Cat purr is comforting for humans and we often think it’s associated with positive feelings, although it’s not always like that.

Here we will talk about some emotions and/or situations that may be connected with this behavior.

When they are happy

When they are going to eat

When you talk to them in an affectionate tone

When they are fearful

When they are in pain

When they are ill

When cats purr they release a substance synthesized by the brain, an endorphin related to welfare, just like the human one. This is the reason why they release it when they are happy or eating their favorite food as well as when they want to calm themselves when they feel malaise.

Can you differentiate the context in which your cat purrs?
